Cornwall Schoolboy Scramble Club started their 2010 summer series championship on the 7th march.
The meeting took place at the clubs new track Polwyn Farm. The week saw fantastic weather throughout which helped the track to be in such good condition. The track consisted of a natural hillsided field with a step up, step down and intresting styled set of whoops. The day saw great racing throughout all the classes. The summer 2010 championship was underway.
Auto’s Saw Morgan Timms claim first overall taking two firsts and a third.
Close in second was newcomer Louie Kessel who claimed two seconds and a first’s tieing on points with Morgan at his first ever meeting, Sam Hunt claimed third taking two thirds and a second, Whilst Archie Bees put all he had in every race finishing all the races in fourth. Race two saw Morgan Timms take the holeshot. Race three Saw Morgan fly over the first hill first, but Louie kessel was close behind battling for the first spot.
Louie managed to sneek past Morgan taking the lead which later saw Morgan crash in the whoops section trying hard to keep up with the new comer to the class who has proved to be the one to look out for over 2010.
The junior 65cc class once again saw Aiden Williams dominating the class taking all the race wins after a great start to the season. Brandon Eva claimed the second spot after taking two thirds, and a fourth. Third went to the ever improving Alfie Crocker who flew past the line taking two seconds and a seventh. Dan Roberts improved through the day taking a fifth, fourth and a brilliant third to take fourth overall. Kawasaki flyer Thomas Andrew claimed fifth overall claiming a eighth fifth and a solid second. Henry Bees was riding Consistent to take sixth overall taking a seventh, sixth and a fifth.
Race one Saw the class dominator Aiden Williams showing his speed and smoothness right from the start. Race two saw Aiden holeshot, But Alfie crocker was riding as hard as he could to try hold on to his pace but the pace was just to much witch saw Alfie stall in one of the tracks corners. Thomas Andrew showed that it wasn’t all about the KTM’s in his class as he tore the track apart on his kawasaki. Race three was underway and Aiden and Brandon Eva challanged each other for the holeshot making it too close to call. Whilst after pushing himself in to second on the second lap Thomas Andrew hanged on tight till the chequerd flag flew.
The small wheel 85cc class had a small line up, Dean symons topped the class taking all three race wins claiming first overall a great start on his year to attempt to take the small wheel 85cc crown. Taking two seconds and a third was Jack roberts who took second overall. Newly upgraded from the 65cc class Jake Curtis Stevens showed hes as quick as ever taking third overall after claiming two thirds and a second. Joe Eiffert rode consistently all day to take all three fourths and fourth overall. Zac Hudson improved through the day taking a ninth, seventh and a sixth taking fifth overall. Whilst solid rides saw Ollie Brooks take two sevenths and a eight to take sixth overall.
Race one saw Jake curtis stevens claim the holeshot but dean soon took the lead away.
Race two saw Dean symons take the holeshot, whilst 2009 65cc champion Jake Curtis Stevens was well on the pace.Race three saw Jake again holeshot. Jack Roberts battled Jake for the second spot but later saw Jack fall down leaving Jake to pull away and claim a safe second.
The Big wheel 85cc class had some really exciting racing happening at the front of the field. The first race was about to start with all riders revving and getting ready for the gates drop within the pack was Adam Dawe who has just moved up from the small wheel class. The gates dropped with Matthew Winn flipping his bike over whilst just ahead Maverick Smith claimed the Holeshot. Race two saw Adam Dawe riding really well within the pack. Whilst despite being in third place, Jack Penhaligon was riding a lonely race. Things really hotted up for the final race of the day. The start saw Aiden Boylan stall his CRF 150.
Luke Yelland was riding smooth whilst in fifth. Matthew Winn had a quite race on his own in fourth whilst third spot Jack Penhaligon was all so running a lonely race. But The battle between first and second was exciting and close. Second spot William Hawkins was riding to a maximum closing the gap on first spot Maverick Smith. William began to be just inches behind and was really starting to put the pressure on Maverick. After flying over the tracks step down Maverick hit the ground unable to stop soon enough for the berms at the bottom of the hill. Hawkins came flying in to Mavericks bike nearly taking him down but managed to keep it up right and took a highly well deserved race win as well as the overall. Eddy Crocker had a great days racing and secured fourth overall after taking two fifths and a fourth.
Seniors was Dominated by Liam Curtis Stevens who was riding in a class of his own making the race wins look easy, Liam also claimed two race holeshots. Bradley Maddever took two seconds and third to take second overall. Stuart Smith had a good day to take third overall claiming a fifth and two fourths. Fourth went to Alex Hockey who claimed a sixth, fifth and a brilliant third. Jack Blackburn took fifth overall with with a seventh, sixth and a fourth.
Jamie Orchard had a bad second race but his third and second secured him sixth overall,
whilst Simon Crocker,Josh Gotts and Jon Haines all tied on points.
The Amx Open class saw a good entry of riders which it included 2009 british expert Enduro champion Jamie Paget.
Jamie Paget showed it wasn’t just enduros he was good at as he claimed a first, second and third taking the first overall spot. Second went to race one holeshotter Daniel Wade who was seen getting held up by novice riders at time’s but still managing to take a fifth second and a race win. Third went to Johnny Hawkins who had a good days racing.
Fourth went by the eratically stylish Wayne Back. Whilst fifth and sixth overall riders Matthew Thomas and Justin Hawkins tied on points with Justin having to settle for sixth.
The Third race was by far the best of the day. Jamie Paget was leading with Wayne back launching his KTM all over the place showing the 200cc difference wasn’t a threat the battle for first was tight and furious.Third spot Johnny Hawkins was hanging on with them close behind. With Jamie and Wayne battling it out to a maximum they seemed unaware just how close Johnny was as he sneeked past them both going on to take the race win.
The club Hopes everyone had a great day’s racing and enjoyed the clubs new track Polwyn farm.
We hope to see you all at Crediton in Devon on March 14th for round 2 of the 2010 Summer Championship.

Mladin on Spies
Days before Ben Spies takes the world stage in the opening round of 2010 MotoGP racing season on the Tech3 Yamaha M1, OnTheThrottle.TV releases an interview from former Yoshimura Suzuki teammate Mat Mladin. This is an excerpt from the Original Series, Mat Mladin: Inside with the Champ Episode 13.
East Kent never ceases to amaze – with the weather as bad as it was on Sunday, our chairman still ran this week’s meeting at Newnham. Several riders changed their minds and went home due to the bad weather but the ones who stayed had a good day’s racing with a lot of fun and a real Dunkirk spirit! Although the paddock area resembled the Somme rather then Dunkirk – and all this despite of and because of the hostile weather!! Strangely though – the track wasn’t bad at all!
Despite the weather and the mud there were several noteworthy battles in the racing and all racers showed true grit and determination.
First out were the Seniors, kicking off with Kieran Clarke, Lewis Dowsett and John Eaton battling hard, and that was the order they took the flag in the first race. In the second race, unfortunately Lewis came off which then meant Kieran had his first ever overall. Well done to Aidan Folan for his best result ever.
The first AMX race saw Piers Skinner get the holeshot and the win, closely followed by Wild Man Paul Willis and Dave Capper. The second Moto saw Aaron Jenner take the holeshot and the win, closely followed again by Wild Man Willis and Joe Cundle. So proving that the best way of keeping clean in mud is staying at the front!
Daniel Guy in the BW85 Race, raced his heart out, battling with Joe Russell and Dan Packman in the first moto. Second race saw some good battles between Jack Norman, Dan Guy and Joe Russell. In the second Moto they all raced hard but the result was Jack Norman in first place, Dan Guy in second and Joe Russell coming in third.
In the SW85 races there was yet more drama as Louis Close and Aaron Ongley battled it out. Honours went to Louis in the first race and to Aaron in the second, giving him the overall. Steady riding in difficult conditions gave Frank Marchant a well-earned third spot on the podium.
Last out were the Juniors, Tom Lockhart made it look so incredibly easy with two strong wins. In the second moto he lapped nearly every other rider!! Gary Ashley, Bradley Smith and Lewis Cloud battled hard to reach first place, but could only watch the mud that Tom kicked up!
We would like to say a really big thanks to the Medics, Marshals, Committee and the Lapscorers for standing out in the rain for two blocks of racing – without you guys the racing could never have happened. Hopefully it will be drier at Mepal on the 28th March!!
