Karel Kramer visits the N.C. Headquarters of JGR

With Yamaha making such radical changes on the 2010 YZ450F, it figured that the top race teams would be scrambling to refine the production bike into a full-on weapon capable of running at the front against the best riders in the world. After all, the YZ release was late, and the SX opener is January 9th. That doesn’t allow much time to get the bikes ready, and we wanted a look at the process. The problem is that the entire U.S. seems to be surfaced in gooey mud at the moment, and that is giving many SX teams gray hair, and the JGR crew is in that group. With the season rushing up, their SX test track would be better for monster truck mudding than SX testing. So for the first day in North Carolina I spent a few hours checking out the JGR NASCAR shops to see where the roots of the JGR SX and MX team are. So check out the photos of some cool stuff!

Letter of the Week

I absolutely love this mag. Now that I have been riding now for two years, I have come to think of this as an addiction. My father raced for quite a while before going to medical school. After 30 years, he bought himself an ‘01 Husaberg FX470, and now I ride an ‘03 RM85L with him. I can’t understand it, why is it that every day, at least once an hour, I am thinking about riding. Earlier this year, my father and I made our pilgrimage to the Motocross Mecca, and ever since I have been obsessed. We live in the white mountains of Arizona, where riding is somewhat hard to do. But we have overcome this difficulty. Nearby Eager has a 30 mi trail that goes up into the mountains. The rocks are unbelievable. We did, however, have some complications with riding there. You see I am only 14, and without a license riding is difficult. We went to the forest service that monitors that trail and they looked at us like we were from some alien planet. My mother however knew a forest service employee and through working with him, we found that it is perfectly legal to ride there without a license. So we registered our motorcycles and I purchased an FMF pipe and spark arrester for my bike. I was just recently out there, we rode the trail twice, (60 miles) over rocks, fallen trees, snow, and mud. It was a continuous ride that lasted 5 hours straight. Hell it was fun. We saw turkeys, dear, elk, and cattle. Now my main interest in life is to do well in high school and ride. Occasionally we go down to fort McDowell and ride at Grindingstone MX. I still don’t understand it though. Why is it that if I am not doing my work for school, I am either preparing to go riding, or riding. I am simply obsessed. I can now read your whole mag, from Jimmy Rigged to Trail Tips, in two days, and am biting at the bit to receive the next issue in the mail. Either way you cut it, my father was and still is obsessed with motorcycles, and it seems to be contagious since I am now the same way. I guess it’s just something we love to do.
